Salt Lake Neighborhood Guides

Designer Statement

2020 has been a constant storm. Throughout the year, we’ve been limited in where we can go. I found myself exploring close to home, venturing only to places I could walk or bike. My community became much smaller. In my mind, I no longer lived in Salt Lake City, I lived in Sugar House, and for a couple of months that’s as far as I went.

I created the Salt Lake neighborhood guides as a way to highlight places within a small distance of one another in different communities. I wanted to feature places that put an emphasis on keeping people safe during the craziness of 2020 — restaurants that offer curbside pickup or delivery, small local shops that still need support, and outdoor spaces that we can all enjoy while being respectful of others.

In many ways, 2020 has opened my eyes to a whole new world, but it has also closed me off to so much. Discovering these spaces in my neighborhood has been an important part of maintaining my sanity through everything that has happened this year. Hopefully, these Salt Lake neighborhood guides can help others do the same.
