Avenues Bicycle Club

I had big plans to get back to long bike rides and even a few races in 2020. That all changed in March. Like everyone else, I headed outdoors and started riding regularly with a fellow Avenues neighbor and friend. On a whim, we started a Thursday night time trial up Emigration one week (until construction), City Creek Canyon the next. As we moved into summer, we invited other neighbors and friends. We followed up our all-out efforts with a few socially distanced outdoor beers, rotating among our Avenues homes.

One particularly late Thursday night, someone suggested naming our makeshift group and designing kits. That led to my entry for this year’s Neighborhood Project.

Those Thursday nights started simple, but turned into the highlight of the week. It was a sliver of normalcy during a time we were all starved for safe social interaction. Through it all, I made great new friends and plenty of memories to help counter all the s*!t we had to endure in 2020.
